Remote starters are a driving force for us here at Enormis Mobile Specialties, and they have been since we opened for business in 1999. The weather in northern Pennsylvania can be quite brutal in the winter time, so this category gets more popular every year. One of the things we have noticed is that vehicle manufacturers are looking to capitalize on the remote starter category. The good news is that it brings more attention to the category, which is good for everyone involved – consumers and retailers alike. The bad news is that many consumers think that a factory-installed remote starter is better than an aftermarket remote starter system, and that is simply not true. Let’s explore the differences in these two types of systems.
1. Run Time
Right out of the gate, this is a major disadvantage of a factory-installed system. Most of their systems only run for 10 minutes, which is never enough time to de-ice the windows of your vehicle on a snowy day. When the temperature outside drops to under 20 degrees, 10 minutes will never be enough time for your vehicle to warm up. The systems at Enormis have adjustable run times, so we can tailor yours to your unique needs. We have found that run times in the 20- to 25-minute range are needed on cold wintery days. This is advantage number one of an aftermarket remote starter system.
2. Range
A factory remote start systems typically has a real-world operating range of around 100 feet. That seriously limits your ability to use your remote starter any place besides at home, which is sad. Our aftermarket remote starter systems have ranges of up to 50 times that of a factory system! Now, when you are at work, church, the mall or out to dinner, you can remote start your vehicle. Why would you want a remote starter that can only warm up you vehicle when you are at home? Does that mean we want to be cold anywhere else we leave our vehicle? Absolutely not. Enormis systems have you covered with range. Advantage number two.
3. Two-Way Control
Among the most popular systems we sell are two-way systems. With these systems, your remote starter gets confirmation back to the remote control that it has completed your requested command. That may be starting the engine or locking the doors. This is a great convenience item on our longer-range systems, when you are not in direct sight of your vehicle. You will have the peace of mind that your vehicle is warming up or that your doors are securely locked. Advantage number three goes to Enormis.
4. Customizable
Factory systems come equipped the way the vehicle manufacturer desires, and that is how it is. Period. Not our systems. We have lots and lots of popular options to choose from, and you can add all of them, some of them or none of them. We put you in the driver’s seat when it comes to options. Some of our popular options include rear window defrost activation, heated seat activation, heated windshield washer fluid systems, heated side mirror activation, and on and on. Advantage number four goes to Enormis.
5. Smartphone Control
Would you like to control your aftermarket remote starter from your smartphone? Any vehicle that we can remote start can be controlled from your smartphone. While a few car makers offer this technology, the vast majority do not. Advantage number five goes to … who else? Enormis!
6. Manual Transmission
Do you own a manual transmission vehicle? We can safely remote start it. Car manufacturers don’t offer this. Period. Advantage number six goes to Enormis.
7. Diesel Engine
Car manufacturers almost never offer remote starting on diesel engines. We do. Plain and simple. Another win for us.
As you can see, the list of advantages is pretty long in favor of Enormis Mobile Specialties compared to a car manufacturer. When you decide to get a remote car starter for your vehicle, choose the obvious winner. Let’s take a look at what makes Enormis different:

I’ve been looking at buying a remote starter for my van. That way I could have it be warming up while I get ready for work in the winter. I’ll probably end up buying it aftermarket, considering the pricing. Thanks for the helpful article!
