A new client from McKean recently contacted ENORMIS Mobile Specialties about adding a remote car starter and Apple CarPlay to his 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 work truck. The truck was in excellent condition but could stand a few upgrades in terms of technology and convenience that would make his workday more efficient and comfortable. The client met with Doug Reichert to discuss the options he wanted and hammer out a plan to modernize this heavy-duty classic.
Chevy Pickup Apple CarPlay Upgrade
We started the project by having Art Dougan, one of our MECP-certified technicians, install a Kenwood DNX575S multimedia receiver with Apple CarPlay in the dash of the Chevy. This radio features a 6.8-inch display and includes both CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration technologies so that the client can switch phones without being left without voice-control technology to make calls, send texts and get navigation directions. The DNX575S includes built-in GPS-based navigation that uses Garmin technology. We added a USB port to the dash so that it’s easy to connect a smartphone to the radio and recharge the phone’s battery while driving.
Ken Whiteman, another of our expert MECP-certified techs, assisted Art with the installation and took on the task of installing a backup camera for the client. With limited space on the back of the truck, Ken decided to mount the camera in the small spoiler on top of the tailgate to provide a clear view of the trailer hitch. Ken ran the wiring through the tailgate and added a quick-disconnect so the client can still remove everything to cargo large items.
Work Truck Remote Starter
Because the owner uses the truck for plowing in the winter, he wanted to be able to warm it up before heading out in the morning. Doug recommended our Quad one-way remote start system. This starter comes with two remote controls for door lock control and starting functions. The remotes provide .15 mile of range. We integrated an EZ-GO hands-free key fob into the system for added convenience. The EZ-GO automatically unlocks the truck doors when the owner is within five feet of the vehicle. The doors automatically relock once the remote leaves that five-foot perimeter range.
Erie’s Automotive Electronics Experts
With the remote car starter, Apple CarPlay receiver and backup camera installed on the Chevy pickup, the client returned to ENORMIS Mobile Specialties to check out the work. He loved new radio, starter and backup camera system. We even helped him connect the phone to the radio and gave him a demonstration of how CarPlay works.
