Heather, a Waterford resident and first-time ENORMIS Mobile Specialties customer, wanted to add a backup camera to her 2013 Ford Escape SEL. The Escape is the family vehicle, so Heather allows her kids to drive it as well. With Waterford instituting a back-in parking rule, Heather and the kids were finding it difficult and time-consuming to park properly the vehicle when in town.
Heather called the store and spoke with Doug Reichert, our vehicle integration specialist, who said, “Of course we can install a rear camera.” Doug and Heather scheduled the installation for when Heather had the day off and could leave the vehicle with us for the morning. We assigned the installation to MECP-certified technician Ken Whiteman, who started with programming the vehicle.
Ken loaded the option for the backup camera into the vehicle’s telematics module, which allows the 8-inch factory touchscreen to display the rear camera image on the screen. After loading the software, Ken installed the camera on the underside of the rear hatch overhang for the license plate, exactly where it would have been from the factory. After installing the camera and running the wiring after the factory harnesses, Ken interfaced the camera directly to the Ford SYNC display.
Heather picked the vehicle up later that afternoon. She and her kids can now see a clear image on the Ford screen when backing up the Escape.
