A local Chevy/Buick/GMC dealership’s customer had purchased an 2019 Buick Encore that already came equipped with a backup camera, but wanted the added assurance of rear sensors for backing up. The customer’s previous vehicle had reverse sensors on it and she had become accustomed to the audible alerts that the reverse sensors provide. The dealership called the store and wanted to upgrade the safety features on this Encore.
The dealership arranged the four-sensor installation before the customer took delivery of the vehicle. MECP-certified technician Art Dougan performed the installation. After mapping out the correct sensor locations on the bumper, Art cut the holes for the sensors precisely. After he physically installed the sensors and control module, Art calibrated the sensors to correspond with the factory backup camera’s distance lines.
When the customer places the vehicle in reverse the factory reverse camera image appears with the parking lines. When the customer is within 6 feet of an obstacle or orange parking lines, the audible alert will chirp. As the driver continues in reverse and moves closer to the obstacle, the audible alerts become louder and more frequent.
