Terri, a repeat ENORMIS Mobile Specialties client and Westfield, NY, resident, had his 2007 Hummer H3 towed in for a no-start condition. Terri believed that the no-start condition was due to a GM security “Passlock issue.” He read about this on the Interent and tried to bypass the GM Passlock system with no success. Then he chose the electrical experts at ENORMIS to finish the job.
Our MECP-certified technician Ken Whiteman was on the case. Ken could get the vehicle to crank, but it would not start. He listened for the fuel pump to engage when starting, but heard no actuation. Ken then metered the fuel pump when starting and found that it had no fuel pressure. He lowered the fuel tank to inspect the pump and wiring, and found that the fuel pump had been replaced rather recently and the wiring for the new fuel pump was very poorly done. In fact, one connection came loose and made contact with the fuel tank! When power was applied from starting the engine, the wire and connector melted right into the fuel tank.
Ken removed the poorly done electrical connections, installed new wiring, and soldered and tightly sealed the new connections. This restored power to the fuel pump, allowing the vehicle to start. ENORMIS kept the vehicle for another two days, starting it occasionally to verify the repair and rule out a Passlock Security issue.
