Jeff, a New York resident, had purchased a 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage with a manual transmission. He wanted a remote start installed in his vehicle but his dealer told him it was impossible. He spoke with Doug Reichert, our integration specialist, and asked, “Can you put a remote start in? ” Doug said, “Sure we can!”
Jeff wanted a long-range remote start that would tell him when the vehicle was running. Doug recommended the Citamat two-way. It has up to 6/10 mile range, two-way confirmation and separate lock/unlock buttons. (The separate buttons are important because Doug knew that when the Mirage was started and running, the factory keyless entry does not work). The Citamat remote will give Jeff full keyless entry even when the vehicle is remote started. Jeff liked the idea of the separate buttons with two-way confirmation for lock, unlock, hatch and start.
Doug explained to Jeff that to install a remote start in a manual transmission vehicle, additional parts and labor would be necessary and that Jeff would have to complete a short sequence to put the vehicle into remote start-ready mode. Jeff said no problem and even appreciated the fact that with this system, there is no way to remote start the vehicle when it’s in gear.
Jeff also wanted to add fog lights to the vehicle. Doug asked, “How about factory fog lights, switch and dash indicator?” Jeff was sold!
Jeff left the vehicle that same day for us to start work on it. The installation was assigned to Ken Whiteman. There were no wiring schematics available for the brand-new vehicle, but Ken was able to install a new Mitsubishi light switch, get the green fog light indicator to turn on and install the Mirage lights in the front bumper.
When Jeff picked the vehicle up the next day, Doug demonstrated the remote start and made sure Jeff understood the sequence for “ready mode.”
