Allen, a North East contractor, had an issue with his 2003 Dodge Ram 3500. The driver rear door lock, window and speaker were inoperative. The Ram truck was also telling Allen that the driver rear door was open when it was not, leaving the interior lights on and draining the battery. Allen called the store and spoke with Doug Reichert, who was familiar with the issue and knew we could help Allen.
Doug and Allen arranged for the truck to be dropped off and Allen left for the day. Art Dougan, one of our MECP-certified technicians, investigated and diagnosed, and found the problem. A new harness was over $300, plus several hours of time to install, and would have taken days to get from the dealership. Art was confident that he could repair the wire harness, rather than just replace it. By finding and addressing the specific problem, he was able to improve on the Dodge Ram design and overcome why the issue happened in the first place.
After doing the electrical repair, Art made sure to check that the truck had full operation of door locks, power window and speaker. This repair was able to tell the truck that the door was actually shut, which will now turn off the dome lights and prevent the battery from draining and going dead.
