A client from East Erie dropped into ENORMIS Mobile Specialties to inquire about fixing his Ram brake controller. The controller kept blowing fuses, and the client wanted to know if we had a replacement. After looking at the installation, we asked why he hadn’t chosen the factory trailer brake controller. The client told us the RV dealer said it wouldn’t work. Thankfully, we have the dealer-level computers required to integrate a Mopar controller into the truck.
Ram Brake Controller Installation
We ordered the factory brake controller components for the client and set up a time to get them installed for him. After installing the hardware, we programmed the truck to work with the controller and display braking information and adjustments on the factory-installed LCD screen in the dash. The Mopar system includes a control assembly panel that we mounted in the factory radio location in front of the center console.
With the truck and trailer weighing upwards of 16,000 pounds when fully loaded, it’s essential to ensure that the trailer brakes function properly. The wired braking system gave the owner a lot more confidence than the wireless system the RV dealer had installed.
Not a lot of shops have the tools required to program the factory computer system for new components. With the number of repairs we do, we’ve made that investment to ensure we can keep our customers happy.
Side-View Mirror Signal Issue
The client mentioned he was also having trouble with the turn signal in the driver-side mirror. We removed the mirror from the truck and found that the electrical connector and bulb assembly were badly corroded. Rather than risk having the problem occur again, we removed the connector from both sides of the wire harness and installed a high-quality replacement. We also replaced the bulb assembly and made sure it was sealed properly.
Another Happy ENORMIS Customer
With the Ram brake controller installed and the lighting in the side-view mirror repaired, it was time for the client to return to ENORMIS in Erie to pick up his truck.
