Chris is a southeast Erie resident and was interested in a remote start for his wife’s 2018 ACURA RDX sport utility vehicle. He did not need a long-range remote start and did not like the idea of carrying a second remote. The dealer wanted over $800 for a remote start! Chris was not looking to take out a second mortgage for this project.
Chris spoke with Doug Reichert, our product integration specialist, and Doug recommended that Chris go with our Factory Start v5. Our Factory Start v5 system uses vehicle-specific wiring harnesses and operates from the vehicle’s factory remotes.
How does it work? This remote start is activated simply by pressing the lock button on the Acura remote three times. Chris can also deactivate the remote start by the same method. (This is nice and easy, but the range of the Acura remote is only about 100 ft. Additional longer-range remotes can easily be added to this system starting at around $50 at the time of installation.)
We tasked our MECP-certified technician Chris Brown with installing the remote start. He prepped and programmed the Factory Start v5 using an Acura-specific wiring harness.
When Chris’s wife came to pick up the vehicle, Doug went over all the operations with her, including the automatic climate controls and heated seats.
