A Sugar Grove, Pa business owner added another Ford E-450 box truck to his fleet and needed an E-Series Cruise Control and the safety of a back up camera. They still make vehicles without cruise control?! Yes, yes they do! This particular business owner traveled back and forth between Ohio and Pennsylvania and the convenience of a cruise control was a “must-have”. So, he first made a phone call to the truck dealership and they could not help him. But, the dealership gave him a recommendation, “Try calling the Electrical Experts at ENORMIS in Harborcreek, PA”. Taking that advice, he called 814-899-8885 and was excited to learn that we could install a high quality Ford E series Cruise Control. On that good news, the client made an appointment to drop off the 2018 Ford E-450.
Ford E-450 OE Cruise Control added
The Operations Manager at ENORMIS will go out of his way to install an OE or original equipment cruise control whenever possible. E series cruise parts were ordered and installed. Once installed, we had to hook up our tools to the E-450’s computers and allow the Ford E-450 to accept the new parts. Once the Ford computers were properly programmed…WALA! The cruise control now operated like it came from the factory. In fact, an OE Ford cruise can be added to any 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 E-250 or E-350 or E-450! Is there a downside? Yes, there is. We MUST HAVE the Ford vehicle at our shop near Erie, Pa to make these cruise controls work! Simply bolting on parts will not work.
The client also asked if we could also install the safety and convenience of a rear backup camera and radio in the dash. Wait a second, did we say “radio in dash”? We don’t install radios anymore! We meant to say a new infotainment system. Info what? Infotainment stands for the information and entertainment factor that today’s…ahem, “radios” now give you!
The safety and convenience of a backup camera
We have all heard the term “knowledge is power” but in this case knowledge is SAFETY! So, we installed a high quality Heavy Duty rear camera high on the rear of the box. This camera features an SHARP 1/3″ Image Sensor. That helps in low light conditions. It’s also IP68 rated and this prevents against water intrusion. All these features sound great and they ARE GREAT! But, as with any technology stuck on the outside of the vehicle, it’s important to have a shop that is ready to solve any issues that may arise in the future. So, where does the driver see the camera signal? Good question, let’s read on.
Kenwood Bluetooth Infotainment unit added to the dash
This E-450 was originally equipped with an AM/FM radio. Since the drives in the truck are very long, a Kenwood Double Din Infotainment unit was a logical choice. Also, a video screen is required for the backup camera and the Kenwood has that! This Kenwood adds a lot of features. As an example, when the phone rings the driver will not have to touch his phone! It’s called Bluetooth! The Kenwood unit will amplify the callers voice to overcome the road noise. Above the front windshield a microphone was installed . How about a cd player? Yes, it has that. What if you want to play Pandora on my phone thru the Kenwood. Yes, you can do that too! There are a whole bunch of more features that will make the drive more comfortable on this Ford E-450 but it’s getting a little wordy here.
