Ammie, a Harborcreek resident and long-time ENORMIS Mobile Specialties customer, wanted a holiday gift for her daughter. Her daughter had just recently purchased a 2018 Honda HRV, and was going to be visiting the Erie area for the holidays from Virginia. What a great gift! Warm in the winter and cool in Virginia’s summer. Ammie called the store and spoke with Doug Reichert.
Ammie had questions about the remote start, since the vehicle would be returning to Virginia after the holidays. Doug explained that ENORMIS would use only vehicle-specific Honda wiring harnessing to install the remote start and that the installation would not automatically void any new-car warranties. That reduced the anxiety for Ammie. She stopped by the store on Christmas Eve and picked up the remotes and a gift box to wrap and put under the tree.
Ammie scheduled her daughter’s vehicle for installation the Friday after Christmas. MECP-certified Ken Whiteman was tasked with the installation of the Factory Start v5 using the Honda vehicle-specific harnessing. This allows Ammie’s daughter to remote start the vehicle at a short range from her Honda key fob. Then Ken paired some optional longer-range (.3-mile) extended range remotes.
When Ammie and her daughter picked up the vehicle later that afternoon, Doug demonstrated the remote start, including the secure takeover that is exclusive to the Honda remote start setup. This allows the driver to walk up to the vehicle and use the proximity door handle to unlock the doors. When the driver gets in the vehicle and closes the driver door, the vehicle then searches for the Honda key fob. When it recognizes the Honda key fob, the driver simply takes the vehicle out of park and drives away. No need to re-start the vehicle.
