A car dealership in Titusville, Pennsylvania, contacted ENORMIS Mobile Specialties to inquire about adding an overhead video system to a 2018 Chevy Traverse for a client whose family enjoys watching DVDs on longer trips. Doug Reichert, our Integration Specialist, spoke to the client and the dealership about the options available for overhead DVD players.
Rear Seat Video Considerations
We carry overhead DVD video units with 8.5-, 10.1- and 13.3-inch screens. Unlike a TV at home, there are some drawbacks to instinctively choosing the largest option for your vehicle. The screen may look out of place or be so large that passengers in the third row of seats have trouble seeing the bottom of the image. Installation considerations are also a factor – there isn’t always enough space on the ceiling to install a large screen. Obstacles like lighting, a sunroof or an overhead console can get in the way.
Chevy Traverse Overhead Video System Installation
The client chose a 10.1-inch display, and we tasked MECP-certified technician Art Dougan with the project of integrating it into the Traverse. Art chose a location on the ceiling that offered an excellent viewing angle from all five rear seats and provided locations for proper bracing of the monitor. Securing the monitor properly is important to prevent the screen from shaking while the vehicle is in motion. Proper installation also comes into play should the vehicle ever be in an accident. The last thing anyone wants is for the monitor to come loose and cause damage or injury. Art ensured that the system was rock-solid and looked great.
DVD Video System Features
The overhead monitor system we installed includes an integrated DVD player as well as HDMI, USB and auxiliary inputs for additional sources. The system includes a pair of wireless headphones and is integrated with the factory audio system. The client can press the Media button on the factory touch-screen radio to play the audio track through the factory speakers.
The dealership picked up the Traverse the following day, and Doug reviewed the installation with their driver. We let them know that the client could contact us directly if she had any questions about how to use her new Chevy Traverse video system.
