A Warren, PA, car dealership had a problem to solve: A prospective buyer for this 2016 Chevy Suburban wanted rear entertainment for his three children, so he called ENORMIS and spoke with Tony Horton, who offered some options. Overhead DVD units are available in 8.5″, 10.2″ and 13.3″ models. Viewing from this Suburban’s third-row seating can be difficult on the two smaller units, so Tony highly recommended the 13.3″ model.
Plans were already in place for us to pick up the vehicle the following day. Art Dougan, one of our MECP-certified technicians, was up to the task for this installation. When ENORMIS installs overhead DVD units, we mount them securely to the roof crossmembers. This practice provides stability while the vehicle is in motion, avoids causing the headliner to sag over time and prevents the overhead DVD from becoming a projectile should the vehicle ever be in an accident.
Once he had mounted the audio output securely to the roof, Art ran it to the AUX input circuit on the Chevy Suburban radio. Doing this allows the audio from the DVD to be heard throughout the vehicle by everyone. Movies can play very clear and sound great, and they aren’t FM-modulated.
For private listening, we provided three sets of wireless headphones. A full-function remote allows the kids to operate the DVD without involving the driver. To complete the installation, we put an an interior accent color trim ring and cover on the unit, so it looked as factory as possible.
