A client from here in Erie recently contacted ENORMIS Mobile Specialties to diagnose and repair a stereo problem with his 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Several of the speakers in the car had started to buzz and rattle and things just didn’t sound right, but the client didn’t want to make any modifications to the vehicle that would diminish its resale value. Thankfully, factory stereo system diagnosis and repair is one of our specialties, and we were happy to schedule an appointment to inspect the vehicle.
Worn-Out Porsche Carrera Speakers
When the client arrived at the shop, we started the inspection by looking at the speakers. The foam woofer surrounds on the center channel speaker and one of the woofers from a door had failed because of age and dry rot and possible UV exposure. This sort of degradation is very common with factory-installed speakers and is something we can sort out easily for the client.
We replaced all the speakers in the vehicle with brand-new drivers directly from Porsche. The project included two speakers in each door, the center channel speaker and the dash and the rear speakers on each side.
Porsche 911 Subwoofer Upgrade
The client mentioned that the stereo had sounded “thin” in terms of bass response, even when the vehicle was new. We suggested that adding a subwoofer to the audio system would not only ensure that low-frequency response would be improved, but it would also improve the clarity of the rest of the speakers because the bass level on the radio could be turned down. The client liked the idea and gave us approval to mount a bass-tube system behind the rear seats. This tubular enclosure includes a built-in amplifier to power the sub, which makes the installation neat and tidy.
As mentioned earlier, the client was conscientious about maintaining the vehicle’s resale value, and we assured him that the sub could be removed easily and would leave no evidence that it was ever there.
Factory Radio Diagnosis and Repair
The client returned to ENORMIS Mobile Specialties in Erie, excited about his stereo working properly again. He was thrilled with the repairs we made and liked the added bass from the new subwoofer system. While audio system upgrades aren’t part of our daily routine, it was great to be able to upgrade this client’s system for better sound.
