If you would like to get a remote starter for your vehicle, Enormis Mobile Specialties knows you have questions. There is a lot of misinformation out there on this topic, so we created this question and answer guide for you. We present to you:
Ten Common Questions About Remote Starters
1. Will installing a remote starter void my new vehicle warranty?
The short answer is no. We field this question almost daily in our store and have gotten so passionate about it that we created a video about warranties. You can watch it here:
2. Do I have to give up a key like my friend did?
More than likely the answer is a big NO! For the vast majority of vehicles, we have a data integration module that eliminates the need for us to use a key as part of your installation. Some European vehicles are examples of rare exceptions. Many shops will automatically tell you that losing a key is mandatory, but that’s because they are using antiquated installation methods. Enormis uses the most-advanced, reliable installation methods available. If you are in the market for a new vehicle, call us ahead of time if you want to have a remote start installed.
3. How long does a remote starter installation take, and can I wait for it?
We typically need half a day to perform your installation. We have two install appointment times for starters: 8:30 a.m.– 1pm and 1pm–5:30 p.m. If you are an out-of-town client, we can make exceptions. European vehicles and others will take longer.
4. Will I have to carry more than one remote control for my vehicle?
This is a very good question and it all depends on your particular vehicle! In some cases we can use your existing fob to start your car! But, in other cases you may have to add a small remote control that just starts the vehicle, while using your existing fob for all the lock, unlock, and trunk functions. In other cases (where you have a separate key and remote control) we can move all of your existing keyless entry functions over to your remote starter fob, so you will only need one. If you own a push-to-start vehicle, there is usually the option of starting the car with your existing fob AND if you need the extra range you can also start your vehicle from your phone or computer!
5. Can I use my existing factory remote control for a remote starter?
On some vehicles, we can use the factory fob to start your vehicle so you won’t need a second remote. A very important thing to know, though, is the range is severely limited when using the factory fob. After installing thousands and thousands of systems, we can tell you from experience that people love the flexibility of starting their vehicles whenever it sits for a period of time. Our remote controls will give you that added convenience.
6. Do remote starters work when it gets really cold? My friend’s system does not.
Our systems will work in all kinds of weather. What your friend is experiencing may be a result of a poor installation or a low-grade product. As the temperature drops, it takes more and more current, or power, to start your vehicle. Our systems are designed and installed to handle the harsh winters that northern Pennsylvania can throw at us.
7. What is this interface, or bypass, that I’ve been told I need?
Modern vehicles use very complex electrical systems that network all of the electrical components in your vehicle. The proper way to do a remote start installation is by using a data integration module. It speaks to the factory computer in its native language and is the safest, most-reliable installation method available. Other vehicles use a transponder, or chip, that is hidden inside the plastic part of your key. We install a transponder module that gets learned by the vehicle as an extra key, allowing your vehicle to be remote started.
8. Can someone take my car if I use my remote start?
This is a great question. Here is the simple answer: An installation performed by Enormis Mobile Specialties keeps your vehicle as secure when using our remote start as when it sits there with the engine off.
9. Will I be told I need more parts after you have my vehicle?
This one gets our blood boiling. Many shops will give everyone a blanket price and then, when the vehicle is in the bay and it needs extra parts or labor, you get a call and the price goes up. We believe in old-fashioned, honest customer service. We build every quote for our clients based on the total installed price for each particular vehicle. Normally, the only variable that may change pricing is if we get incorrect information about the vehicle we are working on.
10. I only have one key – why do I need two keys?
Many modern vehicles require us to have two keys that will start the vehicle for us to program our data modules. If you only have one key, call us in advance to discuss.
Enormis Mobile Specialties hopes this list answers all of your questions. If you have any more questions, we invite you to stop by our facility with your vehicle or contact us HERE. If you would like to get a quote on a remote starter, click HERE.

My car starter was installed about 10 years ago, and it quit working. What is the average life of a car starter? Thank you.
Staff says
I have seen some last 20 years! But, I would say 10 years is an average for a high quality professionally installed remote starter. Most respectable remote start companies have a limited Lifetime Warranty on their remote start main brain modules. But, you may have to pay a good tech to figure out what is indeed the problem.

Question so I have two keys but they need to use one key for the remote start. That one key will stay in the vehicle at all times. Now I only have one key to start the car, can I make another key for the car or will it loss its transponder for the one for the remote start that stays in the car?
Staff says
I would love to help you but I have no idea what kind of car you are even talking about. Most cars Do NOT need to give up a key unless you have an Audi or VW etc. If I know what kind of car I can tell you if you should be giving up a key in the first place. 🙂

I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum, remote starter OE3B4S, installed by the dealer, 2005. My car now “half starts” then shuts off. I’ve read about a valet button; or perhaps a hidden key someplace? Brand new remote battery as well as new car battery. I’m trying to avoid going to the dealer. Anything helps. Thanks, Pam
