David, a McKean, PA, resident, had a dash lighting issue with his 2017 KIA Sportage: The buttons for the radio, heater controls, steering wheel controls, power locks, and windows were not lighting up. David’s local repair facility diagnosed the problem as a faulty ground behind the dashboard and said it would take at least five hours to repair the problem. That could cost a lot of money.
David wanted a second opinion, so he called ENORMIS and spoke with Doug Reichert about the issue. Doug arranged for David to drop the vehicle off at ENORMIS and have one of our electrical technicians put a second set of eyes on the issue.
MECP-certified technician Art Dougan inspected the vehicle and found that the actual issue was in the rear part of the vehicle: a rear wire harness that provides power to a rear door was routed incorrectly. After removing the Kia interior panels, Art also found that a wire harness was frayed. He was able to remove the broken wire, install a new wire and route the harness correctly to prevent further chafing.
Bottom line? Art found the correct cause of the issue and completed the electrical repair in a little over two hours. This job will now cost David much less than the five hours quoted by another shop.
