Jack’s new Mercedes came with a backup camera. In light of that, whenever his wife Tracy was riding in the passenger seat, she would comment on how much easier that made it to back out of the driveway. However, her Volvo XC70 had no backup camera. So, Jack decided to add a backup camera on the Volvo! This camera will help Tracy when she backs out of the driveway and also for everyday parking situations.
Jack had asked several different people where to go for a backup camera. It seemed, the answer was always “Go to ENORMIS.” So, He stopped by the store and spoke with Doug Reichert. Doug is our integration specialist and he demonstrated several different backup camera options. As a result, Jack decided that the best solution was to a add a backup camera to the Volvo’s existing 6.5″ radio display screen. So, Doug did the research and found the appropriate parts. These parts would allow the camera to display to the factory radio screen. Not only that, but it would also work in conjunction with the Volvo’s factory backup sensors! Now that’s pretty cool!
XC70 Backup Camera gets an MECP Installation
So, Doug ordered all the parts and Tracy and Jack dropped the Volvo off the night before their appointment. The next morning, we assigned the installation to MECP-certified technician Art Dougan. Art began by programming and installing the interface to the factory radio screen. After that, the camera was installed. That was followed by running the wiring for the camera through the factory hatch grommet and boot. Under those circumstances, it’s not easy to run camera wiring through rubber factory boots. But, it’s a clean install and you end up seeing none of the camera wires.
Tracy came to get her vehicle later in the afternoon. After she arrived, Doug was happy to demonstrate the operation of the camera and the coordinated backup sensors. As an added bonus, Doug showed Tracy the unused button for the radio. This allows her to view the camera while the vehicle is in Park or Drive.
